‘Unbreakable’ Land’s End – John o’Groats record beaten for first time in 17 years

Michael Broadwith has become the first rider to set a new Land’s End – John o’Groats record in 17 years as he knocked nearly 40 minutes off the previous mark.

Broadwith completed his ride of the length of Great Britain in a time of 43 hours, 25 minutes and 13 seconds, going 39 minutes and seven seconds off the previous record of Gethin Butler from 2001, which some had seen as unbeatable, covering the 841 miles at an average speed of 19.4mph/31.2kmh.

Metfield brothers take on a gruelling cycle challenge

A duo of Suffolk born cyclists have successfully cycled the length of the UK in a bid to raise money for two charities which are very close to their hearts.

On Thursday, May 31, 15 days after they set off, John Melvin, 73 and Peter Melvin, 69, completed the gruelling 1000 mile cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats. The brothers, who were both born in Metfield, near Harleston but now live in Ashfield, Nottingham and Newton, Derbyshire undertook the challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Highgate bowel cancer survivor to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats

A Highgate bowel cancer survivor is cycling 1,000 miles for charity in the hope of raising £100,000 for Bowel & Cancer Research.

Paul Reynolds, who took up cycling after beating the illness in 2009, will ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats in Scotland.
