10 years ago, I was in John Oā€™Groats!

Would you believe it?!?! This time, 10 years ago, I would have been in John Oā€™Groats. Which can only mean one thing. It was just one sleep, till I started doing the John Oā€™Groats to Landā€™s End (JOGLE) cycle. Which took me from John Oā€™Groats at the very top mainland Scotland, to Lands End at the very end of England. A distance of just over 990 miles.

I would, still rate it, as one of the best things, I’ve ever done! Maybe also one of the hardest. That’s the bit, I did need to speak about! I did make it all the way, to end, which is the main thing!



Made it to the end, two years ago today!

I can’t believe it was two years ago today, that I finished the End to End cycle. Where has all that time gone? So I would like to say good luck to everyone that is setting off today. And well done to everyone making it to the end!

Accommodation cost for the 2011 JOGLE

Below the what the accommodation is going to cost for the 2011 JOGLE cycle.

  • Day 0: Saturday 6th August 2011 ā€“ travelling up to John Oā€™Groats – Ā£19.50.
  • Day 1: Sunday 7th August 2011 ā€“ John Oā€™Groats to Tongue ā€“ Ā£17.50.
  • Day 2: Monday 8th August 2011 ā€“ Tongue to Carbisdale Castle – Ā£22.50.
  • Day 3: Tuesday 9th August 2011 ā€“ Carbisdale Castle to Loch Ness – Ā£19.50.
  • Day 4: Wednesday 10th August 2011 ā€“ Loch Ness to Glencoe – Ā£20.00.
  • Day 5: Thursday 11th August 2011 ā€“ Glencoe to Killearn ā€“ Free staying with family.
  • Day 6: Friday 12th August 2011 ā€“ Killearn to New Lanark – Ā£16.75.

Ā£115.75 for the Scottish section, per person.

  • Day 7: Saturday 13th August 2011 ā€“ New Lanark to Carlisle ā€“ Ā£23.00.
  • Day 8: Sunday 14th August 2011 ā€“ Carlisle to Slaidburn ā€“ Ā£16.40
  • Day 9: Monday 15th August 2011 ā€“ Slaidburn to Chester (may change).
  • Day 10: Tuesday 16th August 2011 ā€“ Chester to Clun (may change) Ā£16.40.
    • Camping at Clum Mill from around Ā£10.00, saving Ā£6.40.
  • Day 11: Wednesday 17th August 2011 ā€“ Clun to Welsh Bicknor – Ā£16.40.
    • Camping at Welsh Bicknor from around Ā£10.00 saving Ā£6.40.
  • Day 12: Thursday 18th August 2011 ā€“ Welsh Bicknor to Street ā€“ Ā£22.40.
  • Day 13: Friday 19th August 2011 ā€“ Street to Okehampton – Ā£23.00.
    • Camping at Okehampton from around Ā£10.00, saving Ā£13.00.
  • Day 14: Saturday 20th August 2011 ā€“ Okehampton to Perranporth ā€“ Ā£20.40
  • Day 15: Sunday 21st August 2011 ā€“ Perranporth to Landā€™s End ā€“ Ā£20.40.
    • Camping at Landā€™s End from around Ā£10.00, saving Ā£10.40.
  • Day 16: Monday 22nd August 2011 ā€“ travelling back home.

Ā£142 for the English section, per person. If camping costs Ā£105.80. Also need to find accommodation for Chester, since the YHA has closed.

Total price = Ā£257.75 (with camping Ā£221.55). Plus one of one off cost of joining the SYHA/YHA for Ā£10.

New way of displaying data from the cycle

Just playing around with a new way of displaying data from the End2End cycle that I did in August 2009. This data is made using a WordPress plugin called Gpx2Graphics. I really like it so far, since you can also view the route with google street view.

Oh dear it’s fast looking like the JOGLE 2011 cycle, planned for August may be off, due to lots of people saying due to having no money, so they can’t do it šŸ™ I will post more when I know for sure…
