Clevedon cyclist killed by pothole council had failed to repair, despite police warning

Martyn UzzellThe widow of a Clevedon cyclist killed after hitting a pothole is to sue a council which failed to repair it, despite a warning from police.

Martyn Uzzell, who was 51, was on a Land’s End to John O’Groats charity cycle ride with two friends when he hit a 10cm (4in) deep pothole on the A65 at Giggleswick, North Yorkshire and was thrown into the path of a VW Golf driving behind him. The driver of the car, travelling at about 50mph and only a car’s length away from the group, was unable to avoid Mr Uzzell, who died instantly of severe head injuries.

A30 crash cyclists’ charity ‘overwhelmed’ by donations

The charity which two cyclists were raising money for when they were hit and killed by a lorry has been “overwhelmed” by donations.

Andrew McMenigall, 47, and Toby Wallace, 36, were killed in the crash on the A30 in Cornwall on Tuesday.

Land’s End to John O’Groats record attempt cycle begins

A music teacher is hoping to break the record for cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats and back again.

Chris Hopkinson, from Richmond, North Yorkshire, set off on the 1,700-mile journey at 10:00 BST on Tuesday.
