Three separate attempts to cycle the length of Britain have been completed successfully.

Andrew Robertson and Alan Falconer, of Inverness, reached John O’Groats from Land’s End on Friday after 11 days.

Julian Heitz-Jackson, who is blind, rode tandem with Nicola Bennett. They also took 11 days to get to Land’s End, arriving on Wednesday.

Ten friends from Surrey cycled in fancy dress north to south and completed the route in 10 days.

All the way on a tandem

A 71-YEAR-OLD man is cycling more than 870 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats – despite being completely blind.

Derek Pritchard will man the rear end of a tandem bike, steered by pal Bobby Feven, for the epic journey they began on Monday.

The Cornish Guardian caught up with the pair as they enjoyed a final luxury breakfast at Fifteen in Watergate Bay.

Teenagers on track to roll into skateboarding record books

Three teenagers who are on track to beat the UK’s distance skateboarding record by rolling from John O’Groats to Lands End travelled through the Burnham-On-Sea area on Thursday (July 15th) when they were given a Mayoral welcome.

Matt Elver (18), Charlie Mason (19) and Lee Renshaw (17) from Plymouth are undertaking the challenge to raise money for the Gogo Trust, a charitable organisation based in South Africa.

Teacher to ride 100 miles a day for children’s hospital

THE DEPUTY head of a Sunbury school will be starting his summer holidays by cycling over 1,000 miles across the country from John O’ Groats to Lands End.

Stephen Norwood, a teacher at Chennestone Primary School, will be setting off from the Scottish village on Monday (26) and will be cycling an average of 100 miles a day, to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Cancer survivor’s 1,000 mile ride

A TEENAGE cancer survivor is part of a team of three Kingston Grammar School boys who set off on a charity bike ride covering the length of Britain this week.

Tudor Morris saddled up alongside schoolmates Robbie Montgomery and Tom Beaumont on Tuesday (July 13) at the start of the epic 1,000 mile trip from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Truro boys prepare to cycle for paralysed school friend

Friends of a teenager who broke his neck in a rugby match are preparing to cycle from John O’Groats to Lands End.

Max Levene, 18, from Truro broke his neck during a rugby match between Truro School and Kelly College, Tavistock, in October.

Six of Max’s friends, who were in the same school year as him, will start their 12-day ride on 13 July.

Charity cyclist dies in road accident in Telford

A charity cyclist has died in road accident while on a trip from John O’ Groats to Land’s End.

Arthur Platt, 37, from Lyndhurst, Hampshire, died in hospital on Tuesday after his bicycle crashed into a car on the A442 in Telford, Shropshire.

The leisure centre shift manager was raising money for soldiers’ charity Help for Heroes.

End to End news coverage ‘a slog’

Generating media interest in John O’Groats to Land’s End charity attempts is getting tougher, according to those taking part and reporting on the bids.

Veteran far north journalist Noel Donaldson said people were having to come up with increasingly novel ways of completing the route.

A team who will cycle dressed as superheroes said getting national media attention had been “a slog”.

It has been estimated that up to 6,000 people tackle the route each year.

I am now testing GPS tracking, which is something I would have loved to have done last year, but I did not have the correct mobile phone for doing it. I do know when doing the cycle, it should work most of the time, other then when in the Highlands of Scotland, when your very lucky to get a network, well with Orange anyway.
