Cycling duo come to the rescue of Angmering pupils

A GLIMMER of hope is on the horizon for concerned disabled students at The Angmering School as a cycling-mad duo have pledged their support.

Competitive youngsters at the school’s Lavinia Norfolk Centre feared that, due to mounting costs, they would not be able to make the annual Stoke Mandeville Games national sporting competition for disabled students, this year.

I live each day as if it’s my last – because it could be

If a brain tumour the size of a clementine won’t stop you enjoying life, then it’s unlikely that anything will.

This is the mentality of 22-year-old Warwick man Mat Davis who, despite being diagnosed with an inoperable cancerous tumour, has found the joy in life rather than giving up on it.

Support worker Mr Davis was diagnosed with the tumour two years ago and is now planning to cycle from Lands End to John O Groats with his close friend Matt Whatson.

Ride raises £3866 for Great Ormond Street

Schoolboys Ben Ellis and Ben Warburton have raised a magnificent £3,866 to date for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital in London.

The intrepid 16-year-olds cycled from Land’s End in Cornwall to John O’Groats in Scotland.

I am sure hope of you will have working out by the now, but the JOGLE is not going to happen this year :( . Mainly due to people I was hoping to do it with, all pulling out. But not to worry, I WILL be doing it next year. Even if I have to do the whole thing by myself.

John O’Groats to Land’s End trip took two weeks

Two friends from Otley are celebrating completing a ‘top to bottom’ UK cycling challenge.

Twenty-two-year-old Roy Wood, supported by driver and navigator Ben Wilson, took just two weeks to cycle from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

Cycle of life

A FATHER and daughter from Queensferry have raised a bumper sum for a cancer charity after undertaking to cycle the length and breadth of Great Britain.

Sixty-three year old Bob Henry and daughter Jane (39) cycled the 874 miles from John O’Groats to Lands End last month to raise over £3000 for Maggie’s Caring Centre in Edinburgh, the cancer charity which helps sufferers and their families live with cancer.

Leicester charity Cyclemagic is aiming to raise funds for the development of its disability cycling project.

Workers set to cycle the length of the country in End to End challenge

Workers from a building maintenance firm are parking up their vans and getting on two wheels to help three local charities.

Employees from Kier Sheffield, based on Manor Lane, are holding a follow-up event to a ride from Sheffield to Cleethorpes in 2009 and a sponsored coast-to-coast bike ride last year.

This time they are cycling almost 1,000 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

Hightown’s Les Holmes to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats – and back again – on an old postman’s bike

HIGHTOWN fund-raiser Les Holmes is in training for a 2,000-mile charity challenge to raise money for Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice.

Les, who is celebrating his 70th birthday this year, has undertaken 30 years of fund-raising for various charities including Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

In July he will be taking a 28-day trip pedalling from Land’s End to John O’Groats – and then back again – on an old postman’s bike with just three gears.

Bob celebrates 50th with a 950-mile ride

While many people mark their 50th birthday with a party or a night out with their mates, Cleator Moor man Bob Riley has decided to go a bit further – 950 miles in fact – and cycle from one end of the country to the other.

He plans to complete his challenge in an impressive eight days and hopes to raise lots of money for three charities.
