Taunton cyclist sets new world record

Taunton-born cyclist Ben Rockett has set a new world record by cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats and back in under six days.

Mr Rockett, 23, completed the journey in five days and 21 hours, arriving in Land’s End at around 6am this morning.

He beat the previous record for the 1,781-mile journey – set at six days and twenty hours by Bobby Brown in 2000 – by an impressive 23 hours. The dedicated cyclist also used the challenge to raise money for charity Cardiac Arrest in the Young, who are dedicated to reducing the frequency of sudden cardiac deaths in young people. So far he has raised just over £2, 535 and donations are still flooding in.

Bath University student in distance cycle record claim

A Bath student is laying claim to a new world record for cycling from one end of the country to the other – and back!

Ben Rockett, a postgraduate student from the University of Bath, rode from Land’s End to John O’Groats and then back again to Cornwall.

Ben set off on Saturday, 21 August aiming to cycle the 1,781 miles in just six days – which he completed in the early hours of Friday.

Josh and his gran complete marathon cycle

ALTHOUGH there were a few bruises along the way, there were smiles all round last Wednesday when one Berwickshire High School pupil and his gran got off their bikes after completing a gruelling cycling challenge.

Josh Herbert and his gran Jan Booth set off from John O Groats at the end of July and 21 days later and some 875 miles on, they reached the most southern point of the UK, Lands End.

1000-mile charity bike ride

Two teenage cyclists crossed the border today as part of a marathon ride the length of Britain to raise money for charity.

Instead of sitting around doing nothing during school holidays, 15-year-old Tom Claxton and 16-year-old Giles Calder got on their bikes.

The pair set off from John O’Groats last Wednesday and hope to arrive at Land’s End 1000 miles later.

The teenagers, who attend Lomond School in Helensburgh, want to raise cash for international charity WaterAid.

Pc in John O’Groats to Land’s End running record bid

A father of three from Surrey is hoping to break the world record for running from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

Police officer Lee Chamberlain aims to beat the nine days, two hours and 26 minutes record for the 850-mile route.

The challenge is the equivalent of four marathons a day and Mr Chamberlain will only have a few hours rest each day.

Weird bike in End to End attempt

A bicycle powered by seven cyclists sitting in a circle is being pedalled from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

The team led by Ed Greig, from London, hopes to set a world record by being the first group to complete the route on a conference bike.

Volunteers are being sought along the way. So far the bicycle has reached Inverness and is now heading towards Grantown-on-Spey.

Teenagers on track to roll into skateboarding record books

Three teenagers who are on track to beat the UK’s distance skateboarding record by rolling from John O’Groats to Lands End travelled through the Burnham-On-Sea area on Thursday (July 15th) when they were given a Mayoral welcome.

Matt Elver (18), Charlie Mason (19) and Lee Renshaw (17) from Plymouth are undertaking the challenge to raise money for the Gogo Trust, a charitable organisation based in South Africa.

Teacher to ride 100 miles a day for children’s hospital

THE DEPUTY head of a Sunbury school will be starting his summer holidays by cycling over 1,000 miles across the country from John O’ Groats to Lands End.

Stephen Norwood, a teacher at Chennestone Primary School, will be setting off from the Scottish village on Monday (26) and will be cycling an average of 100 miles a day, to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Cancer survivor’s 1,000 mile ride

A TEENAGE cancer survivor is part of a team of three Kingston Grammar School boys who set off on a charity bike ride covering the length of Britain this week.

Tudor Morris saddled up alongside schoolmates Robbie Montgomery and Tom Beaumont on Tuesday (July 13) at the start of the epic 1,000 mile trip from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Truro boys prepare to cycle for paralysed school friend

Friends of a teenager who broke his neck in a rugby match are preparing to cycle from John O’Groats to Lands End.

Max Levene, 18, from Truro broke his neck during a rugby match between Truro School and Kelly College, Tavistock, in October.

Six of Max’s friends, who were in the same school year as him, will start their 12-day ride on 13 July.
